Cotard's syndrome

Cotard's syndrome is also known as Cotard's delusion and walking corpse syndrome.
A person who suffers from corpse syndrome denies his/her existence as a living person.
Cotard's syndrome is more likely to occur in middle aged and older females; however, this neuropsychiatric disorder can occur to anyone of either sex. The severity of Cotard's syndrome can vary from person to person; a person could be in a mild state of denial or in a complete state of denial.
In a severe state of delusion, people with this psychosis can believe they have died or that they don't exist. Depending on the severity of the disorder, individuals may have negative thoughts about themselves, and they may become suicidal. Some people with Cotard's syndrome believe they can smell their decaying flesh. They may also believe they have lost a vital part of themselves, such as their blood or internal organs.
